  • What if we are late or miss a class?

Weather Closings and States of Emergency: New Motions Dance Center will follow the Queen Anne’s County School System for weather and states of emergency closings. If schools close early, cancel after school activities, or are closed for the day, we will not have class. If schools open late, we will have class. If a child misses class due to an unforeseen closing or sickness, they may make it up by attending another class, as long as it is cleared ahead of time with instructors.

Please try to keep absences to a minimum. We understand that dancers may have other commitments; however, it is critical for students to attend as many classes as possible. A dancer cannot miss every class for 2, 4, or 6 weeks and expect to maintain or improve their skill level. Missing multiple classes is not appropriate and can be dangerous to the dancer.

Please have students arrive in a timely manner in order to be ready when class starts. Due to the progressive nature of the classes, and the required warm-up to prevent injury, students arriving more than twenty minutes late will not be allowed to participate.

If a student is out due to injury, it may still be beneficial for them to attend and learn choreography leading up to recital.

We do not want to remove any dancers from their class. Please communicate with your teachers if there will be frequent absences. Any student who misses five or more classes leading up to recital may not be eligible to participate in the recital.

  • Can parents stay and watch?

We have two dance floors that allow for observation for family members. Studio B is a closed-door classroom with an observation window. Studio A is an open room also visible from the lobby. While in the lobby, please keep loud conversation, cell phone volume, etc. to a minimum to respect our dancers learning experience.

If you plan on using cell phones, having conversation, etc. Please use the side door to access our new waiting room. Dancers may store their belongings in the waiting room and can either leave through the side door or the front door.

Parents are always welcome to watch, as long as it is not a distraction for our dancers. You are also welcome to drop off and pick up your child if needed. Please DO NOT leave children unattended. If your child is in class you may leave and return for pick-up. Siblings and friends (not in a class) may not remain here without an adult.
